Carl Fullerton, Kevin Haney and I prepare Blair Brown for a complete head molding. Anatomy suit on Blair Brown, not used as seen here. Veins on "Anatomy Suit" painted with Scotch-Lite, photographed under front projection. Bill Hunt in his #3 suit (was painted white). There was a #2 suit but it was never used for filming. Ape Man. Facial appliances and hair glued to his body. Famous "bladder effect". During the effect, the inflated area moved up the arm. How it was done. 7 overlapping bladders with tubes for inflation under a foam latex skin.
Starred Bill Hurt and Blair Brown, both great.
This was a make-up landmark requiring full-body foam latex suits,
the first since "Creature of the Black Lagoon" 24 years before. We
had to figure out how to make and inject gallons of foam in huge
3-piece molds, etc. Then came the invention of sophisticated
bladder effects and bizarre make-ups.
